ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava deepens synergies with parent ORLEN Group, transporting a record-high volume of goods together with ORLEN KolTrans last year

04-03-2021

Last year, ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava again reinforced its position in the Czech and international markets. Increased successful synergies with the parent ORLEN Group, the largest company in Central and Eastern Europe, contributed to this development. Last year, Group rail carriers ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava and ORLEN KolTrans jointly delivered more than 366,000 tonnes of goods within the Group. It is a record-high volume with a 25% year-on-year growth.

“I am pleased that we maximised our collaboration within inter-group transport last year. With state-of-the-art and energy-efficient Siemens Vectron locos, we can go to the neighbouring countries, which saves both time and money. We had enough capacities to cover demand, but we do not rest on our laurels and keep expanding and modernising our fleet. That is why we took over the fourth Vectron locomotive. Three more will be deployed in the coming three years,” said Jaroslav Dvořák, ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava’s executive. He added: “The success of our strategy can also be seen in the key performance indicator including the hauling distance. It climbed to 1,399,000,000 gross tonne-kilometres hauled. It shows that our locomotives have been fully utilised, and transport took place along long routes where railways are generally more effective than road transport.”

ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava has 30 locomotives for domestic and international transport. In international transport, there has long been a significant exchange of goods between ORLEN Group companies. The company has long been investing in safety. It is gradually equipping its fleet of diesel locomotives with the state-of-the-art European train control system (ETCS). The entire fleet of 753.7 locos called “Indian cobra” will be upgraded to the ETCS by 2022.

ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava is a member of the international ORLEN Group. It offers a broad portfolio of rail transport services. In addition to the transport of chemical products, it focuses on forwarding, railway carriage leases, repair and cleaning services, and consulting services. It is one of the leading rail carriers in the Czech Republic.

The ORLEN Unipetrol Group is the largest refining and petrochemical company in the Czech Republic. It focuses on crude oil processing and the production, distribution and sale of vehicle fuels and petrochemical products – particularly plastics and fertilisers. In all these areas, it belongs among the critical players on the Czech and Central European market. The ORLEN Unipetrol Group encompasses refineries and production plants in Litvínov and Kralupy nad Vltavou, Paramo with its Mogul brand in Pardubice and Kolín, Spolana Neratovice, and two research centres in Litvínov and Brno. Unipetrol also includes a network of Benzina ORLEN filling stations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. With 419 filling stations, Benzina ORLEN is the largest chain in the Czech Republic. Since its entry in 2019 to Slovakia, Benzina ORLEN has been one of the fastest-growing chains and currently has 20 stations in its network. In 2005, ORLEN Unipetrol became a member of the ORLEN Group, the largest crude-oil processor in Central Europe. ORLEN Unipetrol employs more than 4,800 people. In addition to its business development, ORLEN Unipetrol is proud to be a socially responsible corporation. Therefore, it pays an equal amount of attention to initiatives focusing on the cultivation and support of sustainable development, education, local communities, and the environment.
